Swarovski Crystal Siam Red Colour Range

Red is one of the most popular colours for a crystal heart necklace. For many, a crystal heart pendant looks at it's most striking in a vibrant red hue - hearts and the colour red go together like mistletoe and kisses!

When considering a bright red crystal heart pendant as jewellery focus, many would envisage reds in deep and bright scarlet.

Siam Red (Non Aurora Borealis) 

The starting point of the Swarovski crystal Siam red range. A straight crystal with no metallic back finish.A deep warm red allowing lots of light penetration and radiance. As a crystal with no-back finish, Siam red allows light to pass fully through it, while the interior has a darker centre, similar to the deep velvety tones found on the edges of Swarovski crystal garnet.

In straight-ahead light, there's dark blood red centre with graduated lighting of tone as we traverse to the edges. On a multi-faceted crystal cut, such as is found on the heart range, there's a lovely fluidity the the chromatic  transitions across plane boundaries. One can almost imagine a glass of claret held to the mid-day sun.

Where pure red colour is the priority over all out bling, Siam red non ab, is a good choice. Brilliance and reflective radiance levels are not as extensive as the Aurora Borealis finished variants but for some a subtle red flash is preferable to ostentatious 'in yer face' sparkle.


Siam Red Aurora Borealis

This is the one to chose if you want to mix the deep but light-filled red hues of Siam red above, with a touch of brilliance and increased radiance given by the aurora borealis metallic back coating. 

The aurora borealis back-coating in effect, closes the crystal and reflects penetrating light back through the crystal, rather than allowing it to pass fully through. This adds a greater degree of reflective sparkle to the colour and renders a slightly larger tonal range in comparison to the reds exhibited in non-ab Siam red.

The centre dark reds can be seen to mix with highlights of lighter hues as a results of returning reflections from adjacent planes. Added compound colours can be seen in both straight-ahead and lateral light.


Light Siam Red (Non Aurora Borealis)

A far lighter range of red tones than those found in Siam red. Here the tones are closer to vermilion or a 'strawberry' red rather than a blood red or cherry red range. The chromatic range is less extensive across the crystal with dominance given to 'fruity' light-filled scarlets that vary little from centre to edge. Occasional darker peaks can be seen but they will be as a result of environmental shadows etc. rather than an inherent element of the colour.

As a non back coated finish, the light is allowed to penetrate and pass entirely through the crystal. Brilliance is provided simply by the cut and polish of the surface as no return reflections are present. and the colour therefore stays constant with little mixing of hues.

Light Siam Red Aurora Borealis

Marriage of the vibrant lighter hues of light Siam with the radiative brilliance and flash provided by a metallic back coating. Here light Siam's fruity lighter reds are given more 'space' to reflect and refract throughout the crystal. Light flashes from edge plans can be seen returned to the mid region surfaces to mix with reflections from the interior back.

Light penetrates and serves to vitalise the inherently passionate light red scarlets and crimson blushes. This is your choice if you require maximum impact and constant radiative flashes. Perfect for long drop earring settings.
