If you're considering the purchase of a piece of high quality crystal jewellery, you cannot have failed to notice the vast range of designs and colours available in the Swarovski crystal range.
Whilst this world famous crystal manufacturer can fairly lay claim to producing crystal pieces of the finest quality, they've not been hugely helpful in their general adherence to colour names that offer no descriptive or definitive clue as to the nature of the colour in question.
A case in point is the stunning multi-tone colour 'Medium Vitrail'. As a special colour available in several crystal component designs, such as the beautifully elegant 24mm 'Almond Drop' or the smaller multi faceted hearts in 10mm, 14mm and 18mm, medium vitrail offers a broad chromatic range that at first glance, can appear starkly unrelated.
Not to be confused with Swarovski crystal light vitrail which has a definite multi-tonal blue/purple/grey range, medium vitrail should be regarded as predominantly green with strong contrasting 'impact colours', in its large-scale appearance.
In straight-ahead lighting the colour shows bright pinks and purples at its depths, moving through an almost black phase before a sharp modulation through ever lightening greens and dark emerald edges. In side view, even more unexpected colours can been seen, yellows and hinted orange highlights play across the increasingly green backgrounds with many blue, indigo and midnight hues.
From distance the overall colour display is concentrated on green and the darkest of the reddish tones (pinks and purples), with occasional shocking flashes of bright fuchsia. Medium vitrail serves as a colour name but also denotes a highly reflective back coating application.
The crystals are treated on the back surface with a metallic application, giving increase brilliance and a larger reflective range. Subtle it is not but if a big impact crystal flash is your preference, this colour choice is a good one.
Because of its large tonal variety, medium vitrail is a brave colour choice and not for shrinking violets. The impression on first sight is striking, if bling is your thing, this colour choice will not disappoint.
However, if a solid static green colour choice is required, emerald or peridot would be more suitable and either can be specified with the Aurora Borealis back coating if a greater brilliance is required with a static green hue.
